
You see it a lot in movies: some drama addict drops an objection and stops a wedding in its tracks, to win back their lover/destroy their rival, you know the drill.
Except: in many places, if you raise an invalid objection during a wedding ceremony, you can be cited and maybe even jailed (as one person in Germany was).
Fact is, objecting to a marriage without legal grounds–meaning, without having evidence that the marriage is legally invalid–will sometimes get you in more trouble than the people you’re trying to discomfit. The law is the law; if people are legally entitled to be married and they haven’t lied about their identity and aren’t committing bigamy or stuff like that, you could be held accountable for being disruptive and emotional distress and what-not. No one cares about your feelz at this point, so if you have a personal beef about the marriage, best not go to the wedding unless you can control yourself. Otherwise you may end up in the zip-ties-that-bind.
